What does 'support local' mean? 〜”サポート・ローカル”ってどういう意味？〜

Makana: "What are you doing, sister?"

マカナ：「ねえたん。何してるの？」

Ehime: "Well, mommy & daddy often say 'support local' these days, right?"

えひめ：「えっとでしゅね。最近パパとママ、よく”サポート・ローカル”って言ってるでしょ？」

Makana: "Yes."

マカナ：「うん。」

Ehime: "I think that means 'to reinforce the ground'. So I'm wondering where I should dig a hole on the ground to find the weak spot in our backyard♪"

えひめ：「しょれって、”地面を補強しゅる”ってことだと思うんでしゅよね。だから、裏庭のどこを掘って弱い場所を見つけようかなあって考えてるんでしゅよ。えへへ♪」

Makana: "Wow, you are amazing!"

マカナ：「わあ。ねえたん、すごい！」

Makana: "Then, me, too. Where should I dig?"

マカナ：「じゃあ、ぼくも。どこを掘ろうかな〜」

Mommy: "Please don't!"

ママ：「掘らないで！」

Ehime & Makana might be misunderstanding, but 'support local' means that we support the local businesses to help them survive.

えひめとマカナは誤解しているかもしれませんが、”サポート・ローカル”というのは、地元のビジネスを生き残らせるためにサポートしよう、という意味です。

For this holiday season, I came up with the idea of teaming up with some local businesses to provide our great products to the customers with the great prices. One of them is the local flower shop.

今年のホリデーシーズンのために、私は地元の他のビジネスとチームを組み、私たちの素晴らしい商品を素晴らしい価格でお客様にご提供する、というアイディアを出しました。そのビジネスのひとつが、地元のお花屋さんです。

After I made a plan and got an agreement from my husband, I visited the flower shop to talk about my idea. Since they seemed to like to work with us, I made the business proposal and visited the flower shop again.

計画を練って主人の賛成を得たあと、私は自分のアイディアを話すためにそのお花屋さんを訪れました。私たちとチームを組むことに好意を示してくれるように見えたので、私は計画書を作成し、またお花屋さんを訪ねました。

Until I received the final agreement today, I visited the flower shop many times. By remembering all names of their staff and understanding their situation, I did my best I could. And I finally got "Yes" for everything I wanted! I couldn't do this without my husband' cooperation. He always supported me and encouraged me.

今日最終の賛同を得るまで、私はそのお花屋さんに何度も伺いました。スタッフ全員の名前を覚えたり、お花屋さんの状況を理解しながら、自分のできるベストを尽くしました。そしてようやく、私が希望するすべてのことに”イエス”をもらえたのです！　これは、主人の協力なしではできませんでした。主人はいつも私を支え、励ましてくれました。

When you try to do the best for the local and when you see that your idea is actually working, you feel amazing, right? That's me right now. I'm going to focus on how to present this "Flowers & Wine" idea to people who might be interested in it. 

地元のためにベストを尽くそうとし、自分のアイディアが実際にちゃんと作動しているのが見えるとき、素晴らしい気持ちになりますよね。それが今の私です。これからこの”フラワー＆ワイン”のアイディアを、興味があるかもしれない皆様にどのようにご提案していくかをしっかり考えたいと思います。
