Mommy: "Oh, a lizard."

ママ：「あ、トカゲ。」

Mommy: "Mm? I hear something from the ground where the dead weed is in the middle. What is it?"

ママ：「んん？　真ん中の枯れた雑草がある地面から、何か聞こえる。なんだろう。」

Mommy: "Oh! The dead weed got sucked into the ground! Is it a gopher?"

ママ：「あっ！　枯れた雑草が、地面に吸い込まれた！　ホリネズミかな？」

Sachi: "Wooooow!!! I want to play with a lizard and a gopher!"

さち：「わあああ！！！　わたち、トカゲしゃんやホリネズミしゃんと遊びたい！」

Mommy: "I'm not sure if they want to play with you as much as you do."

ママ：「さっちゃんほど遊びたいと思っているかどうかは、ちょっと‥‥」

The direction that the sunflowers face 〜ひまわりの向く方向〜

Mommy: "Oh? These sunflowers from the ground are interesting. The smaller ones are facing the way where the sun goes down, but the the big ones are facing the way where the sun will rise."

ママ：「あれ？　この地面で育っているひまわりたち、なんかおかしい。小さなひまわりは、太陽が沈む方を向いていて、大きなのは、太陽が出てくる方を向いてる。」

Mommy: "Why is it?"

ママ：「なんで？」

Sachi: "I don't know, but can we talk about it later? I'm a little busy right now."

さち：「わかんない。でもしょの話、あとでもいい？　わたち、今ちょっと忙ちいでしゅから。」

Mommy: "Busy for what?"

ママ：「何して忙しいの？」

Feels like summer now 〜いよいよ夏らしくなって来た〜

Makana: "It really feels like summer now. We should stay cool and hydrate ourselves well."

Mommy: "We should. Daddy & I are having fruit & veggie smoothie almost every day. I'm going to fill the fresh well water in your water bowls now."

ママ：「だね。パパとママは、フルーツとお野菜のスムージを毎日のように飲んでるの。マーくんたちのお水のボールには、新鮮な井戸水を入れるわね。」

Makana: "Yes. That sounds good."

マカナ：「うん。いいね。」

Exciting imagination 〜ワクワクする想像〜

 

Mommy: "Let's put more water in the trough. Mm? Something is in the water. What is it?"

ママ：「さあ、水桶にもっとお水を入れよう。んん？　お水の中に何かある。なんだろう？」

Mommy: "Oh, a feather. I guess a hawk stopped here and drank the water. Just to imagine what happened earlier here is kind of exciting♪"

ママ：「あ、一本の羽。きっとタカがここに止まって、お水を飲んだのね。ここで何が起こったのかを想像するだけで、なんだかワクワクしちゃうわね〜♪」

Makana: "Then, do you get excited when you imagine what Sachi & I did in the backyard earlier this morning?"

マカナ：「じゃあ、ママ。さっちゃんとぼくが今朝早く裏庭で何をしたか想像すると、ワクワクする？」

Mommy: "Well, I get scared for some reason. What did you do?"

ママ：「えっと、なんか怖いんだけど。何したの？」

Beer brewing 〜ビール醸造〜

 

Mommy: "We brewed another beer yesterday. It's brown ale, the most popular beer among fans."

ママ：「昨日、またビールを醸造したのよ。ファンの間で一番人気のブラウンエール。」

Mommy: "It includes the dark grain called chocolate malt. It provides roasted coffe and toasted nuts notes and flavor in beer."

ママ：「チョコレートモルトっていう麦芽が入っててね。焙煎したコーヒーやトーストしたナッツの風味や味をビールに加えられるのよ。」

Makana: "Chocolate, beer... I don't think I'm interested in any of those words."

マカナ：「チョコレート、ビール‥‥ そういう感じの言葉には、興味がないな。」

Sachi: "We want to hear the words like steak, house-made bread, ice cubes."

さち：「ステーキとか、自家製パンとか、氷とか、しょういう言葉を聞きたいんでしゅよ、わたちたちは。」

Our animals are adorable. 〜うちの動物たちはかわいい〜

Since Kii, one of our hens started to show her symptom, it has been a few weeks. She isn't able to walk straight any more. She actually has difficulty even to stand up.

我が家のにわとりの一羽、キーちゃんが症状を見せ始めてから、数週間が経ちました。もうまっすぐ歩くことはできなくなり、立つことさえ難しくなりました。

Chickens die quickly once they start to show their weakness. But speaking from my experience, they can live for a while as long as they eat and drink. 

にわとりは、弱くなると亡くなるのが早いです。でも私の経験から言わせてもらえれば、食べて飲んでいる限り、にわとりはしばらく生きられます。

Every day, I move Kii here and there, and try to let her eat and drink. It looks like seeing other hens pecking the ground stimulates her, and motivates her to eat. She ate some today, too.

毎日、私はきいちゃんをあちらこちらに動かし、食べたり飲んだりしてもらっています。他のにわとりたちが地面をツンツンしているのを見ることは刺激になるようで、食べようという気になるようです。今日もちょっと食べられました。

I know we are the ones who probably see off most of our animals. But we always wish to live with them as long as possible.

多分私たちが、我が家の動物たちのほとんどを見送る方になるんだろうなあ、ということはわかります。でも、できるだけこの子たちと長く一緒にいられれば、と願っています。

Sachi: "Daddy, who is watching TV, is going to move his hands soon. The plate, that has some part of it out from the table is going to fall. Fruits that are currently on the plate are going to fall on me. So this is the best location to be."

さち：「テレビを見ているパパが、もうしゅぐ手を動かしゅ。テーブルからちょっと出ているお皿が、落ちる。今はお皿にのっているフルーツが、わたちの上に落ちてくる。だから、この場所が一番いい場所。」

Mommy: "You have some analytical ability."

ママ：「すごい分析力だわね〜」

Some surprise 〜なかなかなサプライズ〜

 

Mommy: "Yesterday, our chefs made Okonomiyaki-ish food, and celebrated us for our big winning at Central Coast Wine Competition. It was some surprise."

ママ：「昨日、うちのシェフさんたちが、お好み焼き‥‥のようなものを作ってくれて、セントラルコースト・ワインコンペティションでの大きな受賞をお祝いしてくれたのよね。なかなかなサプライズだったわ。」

Sachi: "Okonomiyaki-ish? It sounds like something I can eat. What is it?"

さち：「お好み焼きのようなもの？なんか食べられしょうな響き。なんでしゅか、しょれ？」

Mommy: "Japanese savory pancake, if I say. Someday, I would like to teach them what the actual Okonomiyaki in Osaka is like."

ママ：「まあ、言ってみれば、日本のおかず系パンケーキかな。いつか、大阪本場のお好み焼きが どんなものかを伝授したいわね。」

Looking thinner 〜細くなったように見える〜

Mommy: "Let's trim you guys a little bit today."

ママ：「今日は、ふたりをちょっとトリミングしましょ。」

Makana: "OK. I'll just lie down here."

マカナ：「じゃ、ここに横になろるね。」

Mommy: "You look like you got used to this."

ママ：「マーくん、これに慣れたみたいね。」

40 minutes later　40分後

Makana: "That was refreshing."

マカナ：「さっぱりした〜」

Mommy: "You look thinner now."

ママ：「マーくん、細くなったように見えるわ。」

Sachi: "I look thinner, too, right?"

さち：「わたちも細くなったように見える？」

Mommy: "Umm.... Yeah... Some."

ママ：「あの‥‥ うん‥‥ まあね。」

Hydration 〜水分補給〜

Serene: "I want to drink the water."

セリーン：「ぼく、お水飲みたい。」

Mommy: "Oh, Serene! It has been a long time since I saw you this active. You are walking a lot today."

ママ：「あら、セリーンくん！　セリーンくんがこんなにアクティブなの、久しぶりに見たわ。今日はたくさん歩いてるのね〜」

Serene: "Because it was warm yesterday, I want to drink more than usual. The cold water from the well tastes delicious."

セリーン：「昨日、暑かったから、いつもよりももっと飲みたくなっちゃって。冷たい井戸水が、おいしく感じるんだよ。」

Mommy: "I heard the highest temperature yesterday was about 100F. Please drink a lot of water."

ママ：「昨日の最高気温は、摂氏38℃くらいだったんだって。お水、たくさん飲んでね。」

Makana: "No wonder I feel so warm in the sun. I should drink the water, too."

マカナ：「どおりで、太陽の下にいたら暑いはずだよ。ぼくもお水飲んでおこうっと。」

Mommy: "I should drink the water, too."

ママ：「ママもお水飲んでおこうっと。」

Mommy: "Because it's getting warm, daddy & I are thinking to serve shaved ice in our restaurant. What do you think?"

ママ：「暑くなって来たからね、パパとママ、レストランでかき氷をお出ししようと思ってるの。どう思う？」

Sachi: "Finally, you speak my language. (wagging the tail)"

さち：「やっと、話しがわかるようになりまちたね。（しっぽパタンパタン）」

Mommy: "Haha. You love the ice so much."

Mommy: "Chocolate cake we served to the group of customers yesterday was gorgeous. I think the chef did a great job decolate it."

ママ’：「昨日お客様のグループにお出ししたチョコレートケーキ、ゴージャスだったわね〜　シェフさん、デコレーションするの、がんばったわね。」

Makana: "Chocolate cake... I don't think we can eat."

マカナ：「チョコレートケーキか‥‥ ぼくたちは食べられないな。」

Sachi: "They should have had shaved ice. Then we could join them."

さち：「かき氷にしゅればよかったのに。そちたら、わたちたちも一緒に食べられたのに。」

Mommy: "I don't think they wanted you to join them."

ママ：「いや、一緒にはちょっと‥‥ だと思うけど。」
