An eight-year-old hen, Sea 〜8歳の雌鶏、シーちゃん〜

 

One of our hens is almost having her last time.. She was born in 2016, and came to us with her sister when they were about eight weeks old. They were named "Sea" & "Son (pronounced 'zun'), since former four chicks were named Fes, Tive, Holi & Day. Sea & Son believed my rubber boots are their mommy, and they followed me everywhere.

我が家のにわとりの一羽が、最後の時を迎えようとしています。2016年に生まれ、姉妹として二羽で私たちのところにやって来ました。前のフェス、ティブ、ホリ、デーにちなみ、ふたりは、シー、ズンと名付けられました。シーとズンは、私の長靴をお母さんだと信じて、どこへでも私のあとをついてまわりました。

Son passed away a few years later, but Sea was always healthy and laid beautiful eggs. I saw her in the box yesterday, and I thought she was just laying an egg. But this morning, she was still there, and already in a bad shape. I got to see she is having her last time there.

ズンは、数年のちに亡くなりましたが、シーはいつも健康で、きれいな卵を産んでくれました。昨日シーがボックスにいるのを見て、私は、卵を産んでいるのだと思いました。でも今朝、シーはまだそこにいて、もうすでに、なすすべがない状態でした。

I stroked her back gently and said "Sleep well, Sea." She moved her head a little bit. She is still in the box now. 

私はやさしくシーの背中を撫で、「シーちゃん、よく寝てね。」と言いました。シーは少し頭を動かしました。今もまだ、ボックスにいます。

Sachi: "I enjoyed the moment when Sea came close to the gate to see me."

さち：「シーちゃんが、わたちに会いにゲートの近くまで来てくれたとき、わたち、楽ちかった。」

Makana: "I feel bad barking at her."

マカナ：「ぼく、吠えちゃって悪かったな。」

マカナ：「だから、それを離してって言ってるでしょ！」

Sachi: "I can't! This is mine!"

さち：「ムリ！　わたちのでしゅから！」

Sachi: "Oops, I dropped it."

さち：「おっと、落とちた。」

Makana: "Good girl."

マカナ：「いい子だ。」

Wine bottling day 〜ワインのボトリングデー〜

 

Mommy: "Bottling the new wines is like having babies for us. And there is always something that happens."

ママ：「新しいワインのボトリングは、私たちにとっては、赤ちゃんを産むようなもの。そして、いつも何かが起きる。」

Daddy: "I hope nothing happens this time..."

パパ：「今回は、何も起こらないといいけど‥‥」

Daddy: "Oh, no! Our gold screw-tops are running out soon!"

パパ：「なんてこと！　ゴールドのスクリュートップが、もうすぐ足りなくなる！」

Mommy: "What!? What should we do?"

ママ：「えっ！？　どうする？」

Daddy: "We have silver screw-tops we can use. Should we go for it?"

パパ：「シルバーのスクリュートップならあるけど。使う？」

At home　おうち

Sachi: "I'm so happy being at home and not being involved in such a problem."

さち：「わたちはおうちにいて、しょういう問題に巻き込まれなくって、本当によかった。」

Makana: "It sounds like there is always something unexpected that happens when it comes to bottling."

マカナ：「ボトリングとなると、いつも予期しないことが起こるみたいだね。」

Mommy: "We are still happy with our new babies♪"

ママ：「でも、新しい赤ちゃんたちができてうれしいわ♪」

Mommy: "No matter how much I do weeding every day, the new ones grow on the next day."

ママ：「毎日、どんなに草むしりをやっても、次の日には新しいのが生えてくる。」

Sachi: "Oh, mommy! Do you need a paw?"

さち：「あ、ママ〜！　手を貸そうか？」

Mommy: "Thank you, Sachi. I'm actually thinking to ask the gardener to weed for us."

ママ：「ありがとね、さっちゃん。実は、ガーデナーさんに草むしりをお願いしようかって考えてるのよ。」

Sachi: "You don't need him. I can eat it all. You always say the veggies are good for health."

さち：「ガーデナーしゃん、要らないでしゅよ。ママいつも、お野菜は健康にいいって言ってるでしゅから。」

Mommy: "Well... I think those are a little too much veggies for you."

ママ：「えっと‥‥　ちょっとお野菜の量が多いかな。」

An injured hawk 〜ケガをしたワシ〜

 

Mrs. D: "There is an injured hawk on the street. Can you send your rescue team?"

Dさん：「通りに、ケガをしたワシがいるんです。レスキューチームを送ってもらえませんか？」

Mrs. D: "Oh, no! He went in someone's property."

Dさん：「あ、ダメ！　人の敷地内に入っちゃった。」

Mommy: "I'll find the contact of this property owner."

ママ：「敷地所有者の連絡先を探します。」

Makana: "Then, what happened to him?"

マカナ：「で、どうなったの？」

Mommy: "I had to leave, but Mrs. D was waiting for a rescue team to arrive. I've got to figure out what happened to him by asking Mr.s D later. That hawk looked like he was hit by a car. He couldn't fly."

ママ：「ママはすぐ行かなきゃいけなかったけど、Dさんは、レスキューチームが到着するのを待ってたらしいよ。あとでDさんに聞いて、どうなったか確かめなくっちゃね。あのワシ、車に轢かれたみたいだった。飛ぶことができなかったもの。」

Bud break on the table grape vines 〜食用ぶどうの木の芽吹き〜

Mommy: "Daddy & I saw bud-break on the table grape vines this morning. As a grape grower, this is how we feel spring. It's exciting, isn't it?"

ママ：「パパとママね、今朝、食用のぶどうの木が芽吹いてるのを見たのよ。ぶどう栽培者は、こうやって春を感じるのよね〜　ワクワクするでしょう？」

Sachi: "Not at all."

さち：「全然。」

Makana: "Well, it's nonsense you talk to dogs about grapes that we can't eat."

マカナ「まあ、犬に、食べられないぶどうの話しをされてもねえ。」

The neighbor: "Thank you for letting me use your disc."

ご近所さん：「ディスクを貸してくれて、どうもありがとう。」

Daddy: "No problem."

パパ：「どういたしまして。」

Daddy: "I'm going to attach the disc to your tractor."

パパ：「トラクターに、ディスクを繋げますね。」

The neighbor: "Please. I'm going to disc my property soon."

ご近所さん：「お願いします。すぐ、うちの敷地のディスキング（土地を鋤で引くこと）しますから。」

Sachi: "Where is he discing? I don't see him."

さち：「どこをディスキングちてるでしゅか？　姿が見えないけど。」

Makana: "He is discing his property, not ours."

マカナ：「自分の敷地のディスキングをしてるんだよ。うちのじゃなくって。」

Working dogs 〜仕事をする犬〜

 

Mommy: "Ari, can I take a photo of you with wine? This is for our social media."

ママ：「アリちゃん。ワインと一緒に写真を撮ってもいい？　ソーシャルメディア用なんだけど。」

Ari: "Umm..."

アリちゃん：「あの‥‥」

Ari: "Could you talk with my agent? I'm a famous therapy dog."

アリちゃん：「事務所を通してくれます？　私、有名なセラピードッグなので。」

Mommy: "Oh, you mean your mommy? She said yes, sure♪"

ママ：「ああ、アリちゃんのママさんのこと？　どうぞ、どうぞ、って言ってたよ♪」

Makana: "You shouldn't make Ari work in the tasting room. She is tired from her therapy work."

マカナ：「アリちゃんを、テイスティングルームで働かせちゃダメだよ。セラピーのお仕事で疲れてるんだから。」

Mommy: "Well, then, can you work harder as a winery dog, Ma-kun?"

ママ：「え〜、じゃあ、マーくん、ワイナリードッグとしてもっと働いてくれる？」

Makana: "You should ask Sachi for it."

マカナ：「それは、さっちゃんにお願いして。」

Sachi: "Zzzz...."

さち：「Zzzz....」

Sachi: "This is mine!"

さち：「これ、わたちのっ！」

Makana: "No! It's mine!"

マカナ：「ちがう！　ぼくのっ！」

Makana: "Aaan. (bite)"

マカナ：「あ〜ん。（カプッ）」

Sachi: "Ahhh! You did it!"

さち：「あああ！　やったなーっ！」

Mommy: "Huh... Washing Sachi is usually like lunging a horse, but she stayed still today. Washing Makana is as easy as washing Kona. I was trying to give you compliments, but look. Now you two are wrestling and chewing each other, and making yourselves smelly again."

ママ：「はあ‥‥ さっちゃんを洗うのは、たいてい馬のランジングみたいだけど、今日はじっとしてた。マーくんを洗うのは、コナくんを洗うのと同じくらい簡単。ふたりによくがんばったね、って言おうとしてたんだけど、あ〜あ。なんかレスリングとかお互いのカミカミとかしちゃって。また、におっちゃう。」

Mommy: "Oh, I see. He is taking a nap in the sun. It's spring, isn't it?"

ママ：「ああ、なるほどね。マーくん、太陽のもとでお昼寝してるのよ。春だわね〜」

Mommy: "Oh, sorry. You are not. These two Goldens are Ehime & Makana."

ママ：「ああ、ごめん。さっちゃんじゃないの。このふたりのゴールデンズは、ひめたんとマーくんなの。」

Sachi: "!!!"

さち：「！！！」

Sachi: "I suddenly lost my interest..."

さち：「突然興味がなくなった‥‥」

Mommy: "Don't be so shocked. We'll make a wine label with you someday."

ママ：「そんなにショックを受けないで。いつかさっちゃんのワインラベルを作るからね。」

It's spring. 〜春です〜

Mommy: "Bud-break on the tree. It's spring, isn't it?"

ママ：「木に蕾が。春だわね〜」

Chicken A: "What beautiful weather♪"

にわとりA：「なんて素晴らしいお天気♪」

Chicken B: "Somewhere around my butt is feeling weird. I may need to go back to the coop to lay an egg."

にわとりB：「なんかお尻の辺りがムズムズしてきた。にわとり小屋に帰って卵を生まなきゃかも。」

Mommy: "What a bountiful season. Well, I should do a little more weeding now."

ママ：「恵みの多いシーズン。さあ、もうちょっと草むしりしようっと。」

Makana: "I feel sleepy. I guess it's spring."

マカナ：「眠くなってきた。春だよね。」

Mommy: "I think you are sleepy whatever the season is."

マカナ：「マーくんは、どんな季節でも眠いと思うけど。」
