Seeing the news about a facility dog 〜ファシリティドッグのニュースを見て〜

Mommy: "Kona. You have a fly on your nose again."

ママ：「コナくんのお鼻に、またハエが止まってるよ。」

Kona: "Oh, really?"

コナ：「えっ、ホント？」

Yesterday afternoon, I finished cleaning the backyard and came in the house to wash my hands. There was the news on Japan TV and one white Golden Retriever who looks like Ehime was there. His name is Bailey. It said that he is working for the children's hospital in Japan as a facility dog.

昨日の午後、裏庭の掃除を終えて、手を洗うために家に入ってきました。ジャパンTVでニュースが流れていて、えひめのような白いゴールデンレトリバーいました。その子の名前はベイリー。日本のこども病院で、ファシリティドッグとして勤務しているそうです。

Bailey was born in Australia and received the training in Hawaii. He came to this hospital to work as a facility dog when he was four years old. He is seven years old now. He sometimes stays with children to comfort them when they get blood drawn and medical treatments. Other times, he walks with children to the surgery room. 

ベイリーはオーストラリアで生まれ、ハワイでトレーニングを受けました。４歳のときにこの病院でファシリティドッグとして勤務するためにやってきて、現在７歳です。子供たちが採決や処置のときにそばにいて安心させたり、子供たちと一緒に手術室まで一緒に歩くこともあるそうです。

One person on the news said "Thank you, Bailey. I didn't cry because of you."

ニュースの中で、「ありがとう。ベイリーのおかげで泣かずにすんだ。」と言っている人もいました。

Children can go through the difficult treatments because Bailey is there for them.

ベイリーがそこにいてくれるから、子供たちは、大変な治療を乗り越えられるそうです。

Bailey's handler is also a nurse. She said that one of the mothers in the hospital said one time "This place is like a jail for children." Children cry at the blood drawing and at the surgery room. People might think that's normal, but those crying faces for mothers and fathers are hurting.

ベイリーのハンドラーさんは、看護師さんでもあります。あるとき、入院中の子供のお母さんが、「ここは、ろう屋みたいですね。」と言ったそうです。子供たちは、採決や手術室で泣きます。それは普通のことだと思う人もいるかもしれませんが、子供たちの泣き顔は、お母さんたちやお父さんたちにとっては、心が痛いものです。

Kona: "Kona's special attack!"

コナ：「コナズ・スペシャルアタック！」

Ehime: "Kyaaa!"

えひめ：「きゃあああ！」

Ehime: "Ehime's special laying down!"

えひめ：「えひめズ・スペシャルゴロン！」

Kona: "What's so special?"

コナ：「それのなにがスペシャル？」

Mommy: "......"

ママ：「‥‥」

When the handler met Bailey, she noticed that he acts slowly. 

ハンドラーさんがベイリーに出会ったとき、ベイリーは、まったり行動する子だと気付いたそうです。

 I thought that the first person who recognized his talent did a great job. Because he is now the essential dog for many children in the hospital.

私は、最初にベイリーの才能に気付いた人は素晴らしいと思いました。なぜなら、ベイリーは今では、病院にいるたくさんの子供たちにとって、なくてはならない存在だからです。

People say that dogs are happy when they get jobs and work for people. I've seen dogs that protect sheep and goats during the night. Some dogs are in the vineyard to protect vines. It looks like Bailey got the perfect job for him.

犬は仕事を持ち、人のために働くことを喜びとする、とよく言います。私は、夜の間、羊やヤギを守る犬たちを見たことがあります。ぶどう園で、ぶどうの木を守る犬たちもいます。ベイリーは、ベイリーに一番合った仕事を得たようです。

Ehime: "Wait, wait!"

えひめ：「待て、待て〜！」

Kona: "No, I won't!"

コナ：「やだよ〜！」

Ehime: "What is mommy doing?"

えひめ：「ママ、なにちてるでしゅか？」

Kona: "Looks like she is watching TV."

コナ：「テレビを見てるみたいだけど。」

I sometimes think that there might be different ways that my dogs could shine. But at the same time, it's true that I appreciate my dogs having their lives with me as much as people in this hospital appreciate Bailey.

ときどき私は、私の犬たちが輝ける別の方法があったのではないかと考えてしまいます。でも同時に、この病院の人たちがベイリーに感謝しているのと同じくらい、私は自分の犬たちに、私と犬生を共にしてくれることを感謝しているのも事実です。

Ehime: "What's going on?"

えひめ：「どうちたでしゅかね？」

Kona: "We should go in the house, shouldn't we?"

コナ：「ぼくたち、家に入ったほうがいいんじゃない？」

Just like the new said, I hope many people will get to know the facility dogs' roles and needs. And I hope many facility dogs & therapy dogs will be accepted at the hospitals in the world.

ニュースでも流れていたように、私も、たくさんの人々にファシリティドッグの役割や必要性を知ってもらえること、そして、世界中の病院で、ファシリティドッグやセラピードッグが受け入れられることを祈っています。

Kona: "Do you need us for anything, mommy?"

コナ：「ママ。ぼくたち、なにかお手伝いしようか？」

Ehime: "We are back in the house."

えひめ：「おうちの中に戻ってきまちたから。」

Well, it's for sure that my dogs make us smile every day.

まあ、我が家の犬たちは、毎日私たちを笑顔にしてくれることは確かです。

Kona: "?"

コナ：「？」

Ehime: "Time for a snack again?"

えひめ：「またおやつの時間？」
