Something I can't keep a secret from them 〜この子たちには秘密にできないこと〜

Sunny: "I was wondering what's going on here."

サニー：「ここで何が起きているのかと思えば」

Sunny: "There is someone who is stealing my food."

サニー：「私のごはんを盗んでいる人がいます。」

Mommy: "I'm just getting some milk to make Happy feel better!"

ママ：「ハッピーちゃんが気持ちよくなるように、ちょっとミルクをもらってるだけよ！」

At home　おうち

Kona: "I was wondering what's going on here."

コナ：「ここで何が起きているのかと思えば」

Kona: "Mommy is trying eat an apple secretly."

コナ：「ママが密かに、りんごを食べようとしている。」

Ehime: "You shouldn't keep an apple by yourself."

えひめ：「りんごを独り占めしゅるのは、ダメでしゅよ。」

Kahlua: "We are already sitting. Hurry, mommy."

カルア：「ぼくたち、もう座ってるよ。ママ、早く。」

Mommy: "Why am I always the bad one???"

ママ：「どうしてママはいつも悪者？？？」

Thank you for being born. Part 4 〜生まれてきてくれてありがとう パート４〜

Kona: "So, did you milk Happy and put the milk in the milk bottle for Sunny?"

コナ：「それで、ママがハッピーちゃんのお乳を搾ってサニーちゃん用にミルクボトルに入れたの？」

Kahlua: "I wonder if she drank that way."

カルア：「サニーちゃん、その方法で飲めたのかな。」

Ehime: "Happy felt uncomfortable if she didn't get milk out, right?"

えひめ：「ミルクを飲んでもらわなかったら、ハッピーちゃんも気持ち悪いんでしゅよね？」

March 19th　3月19日

Mommy: "I wonder if Sunny can drink powdered milk from this milk bottle for a calf."

ママ：「サニーちゃん、子牛用のこのミルクボトルから、粉ミルクを飲めるかしら。」

Daddy: "I'm not sure, but let's get it and see how she does."

パパ：「どうかな。でもそれを買って、サニーがどうするか様子を見てみよう。」

Mommy: "Fu fu. A mature guy is holding the milk for a baby calf and driving a Lexus. This is an interesting picture♪"

ママ：「うふふ。成人男性が、赤ちゃん牛用のミルクを持ってレクサスを運転してる。これ、おもしろい絵だわ♪」

Daddy: "You are laughing at me!"

パパ：「ママ、ぼくのことを笑ってる〜！」

Let me say the end of the result first. Sunny couldn't drink powered milk from the milk bottle for a calf, because her sucking was so weak. We asked Happy's foster mommy if we can borrow her milk bottle for humans, and she said yes. By the way, It was Cheer many years ago who was drinking milk from this milk bottle.

結論を先に述べると、サニーは、子牛用のミルクボトルから粉ミルクを飲むことができませんでした。吸う力が、とても弱かったからです。私たちはハッピーの里親ママさんに、人間用のミルクボトルを貸してもらえるか尋ねました。「はい。」と言ってくれました。ちなみに、このミルクボトルからミルクを飲んでいたのは、何年も前のチアちゃんです。

It was raining in the afternoon. I had to carry the hay for adult cows & milk bottle for Sunny, and walk to the barn in the muddy hill. My feet were sunk in the mud above my ankles. At that time, I thought this was my hardest time to work for cows.

 午後は、雨が降っていました。私は、大人の牛たち用に干し草を、サニー用にミルクボトルを担ぎ、ドロドロの丘を牛小屋まで歩いていかなければいけませんでした。私の足は、くるぶしの上まで泥の中に沈みました。あの時は、これが牛たちへの仕事で一番大変な時だと思っていました。

Mommy: "Oh, Sunny. You look skinny. Let's drink milk."

ママ：「ああ、サニーちゃん。痩せてるね。さあ、ミルクを飲もう。」

Sunny: "......"

サニー：「‥‥」

Happy: "I have a lot of milk in me. I wish I didn't have sensitive teats."

ハッピー：「ミルクはたくさん私の中にあるのよ。おっぱいが敏感じゃなければよかったんだけど。」

Sunny: "I drank."

サニー：「飲んだ。」

Mommy: "Yes, you did! Powdered milk has good nutrition for you, so I'm very happy you drank some."

ママ：「うん、できたね！粉ミルクには、サニーちゃんにとっていい栄養が入ってるからね。飲んでくれて、本当に嬉しいわ。」

My husband and I were not the only ones who were taking care of Happy and Sunny. Happy's foster mommy visited the barn many times during the night every day, and tried to let Sunny drink the milk. Without her help, we couldn't go to work.

ハッピーとサニーのお世話をしていたのは、主人と私だけではありません。ハッピーの里親ママさんは、毎日夜の間に牛小屋を何度も訪れて、サニーにミルクを飲ませようとしてくれました。この方の助けなしでは、私たちは仕事に行くこともできませんでした。

March 20th　3月20日

Mommy: "Here you are, Sunny. Please drink a lot and get stronger."

ママ：「はい、サニーちゃん。たくさん飲んで、強くなってね。」

Sunny: "OK."

サニー：「はい。」

The afternoon on this day was my hardest work time for cows. The rain storm came through our area. It's difficult to tell how much rain was coming down in the photo, but I heard the crunchy sound from the rain like when you rip up something. 

この日の午後は、牛たちの仕事で一番大変だと思ったときでした。このエリアに、雨の嵐がやって来たからです。写真では、どれくらい雨が降ったのかを伝えることは難しいのですが、何かを破ったときのような「バリバリ」と言う音が、雨から聞こえていました。

Mommy: "If there is something you have to do, you have to do. Let's go!"

ママ：「やらなければいけないことがあるなら、やるしかない。さあ、行こう！」

Mommy: "Oh, my goodness!!! Sunny is drinking milk from Happy!!! When did it start to happen???"

ママ：「わあ、なんてこと！！！サニーちゃんが、ハッピーちゃんからミルクを飲んでる！！！いつできるようになったの？？？」

Happy: "I'm not sure, but we are OK now."

ハッピー：「さあ。でも私たち、もう大丈夫よ。」

Sunny: "♪♪♪"

サニー：「♪♪♪」

Mommy: "I might cry seeing this."

ママ：「こんなの見せてもらって、なんか泣きそう。」

Ehime: "Yay! Sunny can now drink Happy's milk directly! Congratulations♪"

えひめ：「イエーイ！サニーちゃん、ハッピーちゃんのミルクを直接飲めるようになったんでしゅね！おめでとう♪」

Kahlua: "Huh, that was an exciting story. I can now feel relaxed without worrying about Sunny."

カルア：「はあ、なんてドキドキする話しだったんだ。これでサニーちゃんの心配をすることなく、やっとリラックスできるよ。」

Kona: "They are the other side of that hill, right? I want to go say hi to Sunny someday."

コナ：「みんな、あの丘の向こう側にいるんでしょ？ぼく、いつか、サニーちゃんにあいさつに行きたいな。」

Thank you for being born. Part 3 〜生まれてきてくれてありがとう パート３〜

Kona: "If my memory is correct, Sunny hasn't drunk Happy's milk yet, right?"

コナ：「ぼくの記憶が正しければ、サニーちゃん、まだハッピーちゃんのミルクを飲んでなかったよね？」

Kahlua: "Hmm... That's not good. Didn't you say that a baby calf needs to drink his/her mommy's milk within two hours after a birth?"

カルア：「うーん‥‥　それは、よくないな。赤ちゃん牛は、生まれてから２時間以内にお母さん牛のミルクを飲まなきゃいけないって言わなかった？」

March 18th　3月18日

Happy: "Wait, Sunny! I want you to drink my milk, but my teats just hurt."

ハッピー：「サニー、待って！サニーにミルクを飲んでもらいたいのよ。ただ、おっぱいが痛いだけなの。」

Sunny: "......"

サニー：「‥‥」

Happy: "Are you listening?"

ハッピー：「ねえ、聞いてる？」

Sunny: "......"

サニー：「‥‥」

Serene: "Well, it looks like my mother has a lot of milk in there."

セリーン：「まあ、母さんの中にたくさんミルクはあるみたいだけどね。」

Cheer: "Yes. It looks like a big tank."

チア：「ホント。大きなタンクみたいだわ。」

Happy's foster mommy: "Sunny, don't give up. Here, it's right there."

ハッピーの里親ママさん：「サニー、あきらめないで。ほら、そこよ、そこ。」

Sunny: "Mmm..."

サニー：「んん‥‥」

Happy's foster mommy: "Hold it in your mouth."

ハッピーの里親ママさん：「お口にくわえてごらん。」

Sunny: "Mmm..."

サニー：「んん‥‥」

We made Sunny to hold Happy's teats from time to time, but she was not strong enough to suck the milk. But Sunny is Happy's third child, and Happy looked like she cared about Sunny a lot. So we just decided to leave them alone and let them do it on their own.

私たちは、時折サニーにハッピーのおっぱいをくわえさせようとしましたが、サニーの吸う力は、ミルクを吸えるほど強くはありませんでした。でもサニーはハッピーの三番目の子供で、ハッピーはサニーのことをとても気にかけているようでした。それで私たちは、そのままふたりを残し、自分たちでどうにかさせることにしました。

We were still worried about Happy and Sunny at that night. Around 8:00pm, Happy's foster mommy and I decided to go to the grocery store and get whole milk. We warmed up some milk and put it in the human's milk bottle. We walked up to the hill in the dark and tried to check on Happy and Sunny. 

それでも私たちはその夜、ハッピーとサニーのことが心配でした。午後8時ごろ、ハッピーの里親ママさんと私はスーパーへ行き、全乳（低脂肪や脱脂乳ではないそのままの牛乳）を買いました。そのミルクを温めて、ミルクボトルに入れました。私たちは暗い中丘を歩いていき、ハッピーとサニーの様子を見てみることにしました。

Happy looked great as usual. Sunny looked a little weak. We decided to put them alone in the barn that night. When Happy's foster mommy put the milk bottle in Sunny's mouth, she drank up! Poor Sunny, she must have been hungry... This milk from the regular grocery store was just for the emergency, but we were happy we did it. I'm not sure if Sunny could survive on that cold night without the emergency milk.

ハッピーは、いつも通り元気そうでした。サニーは、ちょっと弱っている感じでした。私たちはその夜、ふたりを牛小屋に入れてふたりっきりにさせることにしました。ハッピーの里親ママさんがミルクボトルをハッピーの口に入れると、なんと、サニーはそれを飲み干しました！かわいそうに、サニー。おなかがすいていたのでしょうね‥‥　普通のスーパーで買ったこのミルクは緊急用でしたが、このミルクをあげてよかったです。緊急用ミルクがなければ、サニーがあの寒い夜を生き延びていたかわかりません。

March 19th　3月19日

Serene: "Good morning, mother. How are you doing?"

セリーン：「母さん、おはよ。元気？」

Happy: "I'm doing well. And Sunny, too."

ハッピー：「元気よ。サニーもね。」

Mommy: "I squeezed Happy's teats super gently, and I got a little amount of milk. Let's bring this to Happy's foster mommy. She might be able to use this for you in the milk bottle she has while we are going to get the powdered milk for a baby calf."

ママ：「ハッピーちゃんのおっぱいをものすごーく優しくしぼって、ちょっとだけミルクをもらったよ。これをハッピーちゃんの里親ママさんに届けよう。私たちが赤ちゃん牛用の粉ミルクを買いに行っている間に、里親ママさんが、ご自身が持っているミルクボトルに入れて、きっとサニーちゃんに使ってくれるからね。」

Sunny: "......"

サニー：「‥‥」

Serene: "I'm not sure what's going on, but I feel comfortable here♪"

セリーン：「何が起きているのかはよくわからないけれど、ここ、気持ちいい♪」

Kona: "Oh, wow. Sunny had the emergency milk."

コナ：「へ〜、そうだったんだ。サニーちゃん、緊急用のミルクを飲んだんだ。」

Ehime: "I understand how weak you feel when you are hungry. Anything you can eat is great."

えひめ：「おなかがしゅいているときは、気持ちが弱くなりましゅからね。食べられるものなら、なんでもいいんでしゅよ。」

Kahlua: "But Sunny should drink Happy's milk some time soon to be strong, right?"

カルア：「でもサニーちゃん。強くなるためには、ハッピーちゃんのミルクを早く飲んだ方がいいんでしょう？」
