Fixing the roof! Ehime didn't miss us. 〜屋根の修理！えひめは私たちを恋しがっているのではなかった〜

Last Saturday　先週の土曜日

Daddy: "70mph wind gusts blew away the roof on chicken coop last night. Let's fix it."

パパ：「昨夜時速112キロの突風が、にわとり小屋の屋根を吹き飛ばしたんだ。修理をしよう。」

Holi: "That was a big storm."

ホリ：「あれは、ひどい嵐だったわね。」

Sea: "It was scary."

シー：「怖かったわ〜」

Mommy: "Do you want me to put these pieces in the garbage bag?"

ママ：「この破片、ゴミ袋に入れようか？」

Daddy: "Yes, please."

パパ：「うん、お願い。」

Daddy: "Now, I'm taking pieces off this side."

パパ：「さあ、今度はこっち側をはがすぞ。」

Mommy: "OK."

ママ：「はい。」

Daddy: "I hope we can put the new roof on well. We've never done this before."

パパ：「新しい屋根、ちゃんと付けられるといいな。今までやったことないから、こういうの。」

Mommy: "I'm sure we can."

ママ：「きっとできるわよ。」

Sea: "Can they really fix our roof?"

シー：「私たちの屋根、ちゃんと修理してくれるかしら？」

Holi: "I hope so. I don't want to get wet throughout the night."

ホリ：「だといいんだけど。夜通し濡れるなんて、イヤだもの。」

Holi: "Let's go check."

ホリ：「ちょっと見に行ってみましょ。」

Sea: "OK. Let's do."

シー：「うん。そうしましょ。」

Daddy: "So this is the one I'm going to put on the roof now."

パパ：「で、これが今から屋根に付けるもの。」

Mommy: "I have nails when you need, darling."

ママ：「パパ、私が釘を持ってるからね〜」

Daddy: "OK."

パパ：「わかった。」

Daddy: "And... I'm going to hammer the nail here..."

パパ：「で‥‥　ここに釘を金づちで打って‥‥」

Mommy: "Oh. a rainbow! Let's send a rainbow photo to the local news station."

ママ：「あっ、虹！虹の写真を、地元のニュース局に送ろうっと。」

Ehime: "Bow!"

えひめ：「ワン！」

Mommy: "What happened, Ehime? You don't normally bark. Did you actually miss us? Oh, you are so sweet❤︎"

ママ：「ひめたん、どうしたの？普段は鳴かないのに。やっぱりママたちがいなくて寂しかった？もう、ひめたんったら、かわいい❤︎」

Ehime: "Well..."

えひめ：「えっと‥‥」

Kona: "No, mommy. Ehime is feeling cold. So she wants to get back in the house. And me, too."

コナ：「ちがうよ、ママ。ひめたんね、寒いから家の中に入りたいんだって。ぼくもだけど。」

Mommy: "You didn't miss us? Awww...."

ママ：「ママたちに会えなくて寂しかったんじゃないの？あううう‥‥」

Sea: "They want to go back in the house, because it's cold. Are they really dogs?"

シー：「寒いから家に入りたいんですって。本当に犬？」

Holi: "They are like cats."

ホリ：「ネコみたいね。」

Bunny: "I'm really a bunny."

うさぎ：「私は本当に、うさぎです。」

Mommy: "Oh, you surprised me, bunny."

ママ：「あ、うさぎさん。びっくりした〜」

Daddy: "Do you want to hammer the nail?"

パパ：「ママも金づちで釘を打ってみる？」

Mommy: "Yes, I do."

ママ：「うん、やってみる。」

Mommy: "Like this, right? So I won't hammer my thumb like you did."

ママ：「こうでしょう？そしたら親指を金づちで打たなくっていいものね、パパみたいに。」

Daddy: "Hey! That's supposed to be a secret!"

パパ：「ちょっと！それは秘密のはずなのに！」

Daddy: "It took us three hours, but it's done!"

パパ：「3時間かかったけれど、出来上がり！」

Mommy: "Yay, we did it!"

ママ：「やった〜、私たち、やったね！」

Mommy: "Let's take a memorial photo in front of the chicken coop♪"

ママ：「にわとり小屋の前で、記念写真を撮りましょ♪」

Daddy: "My hair is blowing."

パパ：「ぼくの髪、風で飛んでるよ〜」

At home　おうち

Ehime: "Umm.... Was it cold outside?"

えひめ：「あの‥‥　お外、寒かったでしゅか？」

Mommy: "Yes, it was. I need a shower now. Brrrr...."

ママ：「うん、寒かった〜　ママ、シャワーを浴びなきゃ。ブルルルルル‥‥」

On a rainy day 〜雨の日は〜

Daddy: "Run, Hana! Do your exercise."

パパ：「ハナ、走れ！運動するんだ。」

Hana: "OK, daddy!"

ハナ：「はい、パパ！」

Mommy: "I'm glad Hana's stable has an inside arena, so we can all get an exercise on a rainy day."

ママ：「ハナちゃんの馬牧場に、場内アリーナがあってよかったわ。だって、雨の日にみんなで運動ができるんだもの。」

Ehime: "I don't want to do an exercise on a rainy day."

えひめ：「雨に日に運動なんて、イヤでしゅよ。」

Kona: "On a rainy day, we should take a nap on the couch quietly."

コナ：「雨の日は、静かにソファーの上でお昼寝するべきだね。」

What do you want to harvest? 〜何を収穫したい？〜

Mommy: "Because Daddy asked me to harvest this lemon this morning, let's do it before the rain comes."

ママ：「パパが今朝、このレモンの収穫をしておいてねって言ってたから、雨が降り出す前に、収穫しておこう。」

Ehime: "Brother Kona, it's the time of lemon harvesting."

えひめ：「コナにい。レモンの収穫の時期でしゅよ。」

Kona: "......"

コナ：「‥‥」

Kona: "Mommy. I was wondering... Why don't you harvest the salmon?"

コナ：「ママ。ぼく、思うんだけど‥‥　サーモンの収穫をするのはどうかな？」

Mommy: "What!? Where???"

ママ：「えっ！？どこで？？？」

Flower blooming in winter 〜冬に咲く花〜

Mommy: "What a beautiful sunrise today♪"

ママ：「今日は、きれいな日の出ね〜♪」

Daddy: "It is. But I'm looking forward to sleeping in a little bit this weekend."

パパ：「そうだね。でもぼくは、週末にちょっとだけゆっくり起きるのを楽しみにしているんだ。」

Mommy: "Me, too. I'll set the alarm at 7:15am for the weekend."

ママ：「私も。週末は、アラームを7時15分にセットするわね。」

On a morning walk　朝のお散歩で

Mommy: "Oh, look, doggies. Magnolia flowers on the street are getting ready to bloom!"

ママ：「あっ、ふたりとも、見て。道にあるマグノリアのお花が、咲く準備をしてる！」 

Ehime: "Oh, yeah. In this cold weather."

えひめ：「あ、ホント。こんなに寒いのに。」

Mommy: "Our temperature in California is much more comfortable than the one in the East Coast. They are now suffering from the icy coldness there."

ママ：「カリフォルニア州の気温は、東海岸の気温よりずっと快適だからね。東海岸では今、氷のような寒さに大変な思いをしているのよ。」

Kona: "We saw the news on TV. I hope everyone survives somehow."

コナ：「テレビのニュースで見たよね。なんとかみんな、乗り越えてくれるといいけど。」

At home　おうち

Ehime: "Now, I'm going to take a nap with a reindeer in the warm house."

えひめ：「じゃあわたちは、暖かいおうちでトナカイしゃんと一緒にお昼寝ちましゅから。」

Mommy: "You look comfortable."

ママ：「ひめたん、心地よさそうね。」

Kona: "I'm going to sleep here with my blanket."

コナ：「ぼくは、ぼくのブランケットと一緒にここで寝るから。」

Mommy: "Well... You may have forgotten, but that blanket was a Christmas gift for me."

ママ：「えっと‥‥　コナくんは忘れてしまったかもしれないんだけどね、そのブランケットは、ママがもらったクリスマスプレゼントなんだけど。」

Kona: "Zzzz...."

コナ：「Zzzz....」

Sticky pecan caramel rolls at home♪ 〜おうちでスティッキー・ピーカン・キャラメルロール♪〜

Mommy: "I'm glad I finally have time for baking. Let's make sticky pecan caramel rolls today♪"

ママ：「やっとベーキングの時間が取れてよかったわ〜　今日は、スティッキー・ピーカン・キャラメルロールを作ろう♪」

Kona: "Can we dogs eat that, too?"

コナ：「それ、ぼくたち犬も食べられる？」

Mommy: "Sorry. I think this will be too sweet for you guys."

ママ：「ごめんね。これは、ふたりには甘すぎると思うよ。」

Ehime: "Are you baking the thing that we dogs cannot eat again?"

えひめ：「また、わたちたち犬が食べられないものを焼いてるでしゅか？」

Mommy: "I'll bake something else soon."

ママ：「すぐに、他のものも焼くわよ。」

Mommy: "Let's sprinkle the chopped pecan nuts on the dough."

ママ：「生地の上に、切り砕いたピーカンナッツを乗せて、と。」

Ehime: "Umm... I think we can eat the edge of the bread."

えひめ：「あの‥　パンの端っこなら、私たちも食べられると思うんでしゅけど。」

Mommy: "Edge... Well, I'll show you how it works."

ママ：「端っこって‥‥　じゃあ、どうなるか見せるわね。」

Mommy: "I actually roll the dough like this and slice it up into eight pieces."

ママ：「あのね、こうやって生地を丸めて言って、八つのピースに切るの。」

Mommy: "Then, it goes in the baking pan like this that I prepared before. See? Where is the edge?"

ママ：「それから、その八つのピースは、先に準備しておいたベーキングパンにこうやって入るの。ね？端っこってどこかしら？」

Ehime: "Awww...."

えひめ：「あううう‥‥」

Daddy: "I'm home♪ Oh? What are you making, honey?"

パパ：「ただいま〜　あれ？ママ、何を作ってるの？」

Mommy: "Sticky pecan caramel rolls. They raised well. They are now about to go in the oven."

ママ：「スティッキー・ピーカン・キャラメルロールよ。うまく膨らんだわ。そろそろオーブンに入れてもいいわね。」

40 min later　40分後

Daddy: "Are you going to make it upside down?"

パパ：「それ、逆さまにするの？」

Mommy: "Yes. So the sticky pecan comes on top."

ママ：「うん。そしたら、スティッキーなピーカンが上に来るから。」

Mommy: "One, two..... three!"

ママ：「いち、にーの‥‥　さんっ！」

Daddy: "Ohhhh!!!"

パパ：「おおおお！！！」

Mommy: "Look, darling. I got it out♪"

ママ：「パパ、見て。取り出したよ♪」

Daddy: "I already looked. Let's eat now."

パパ：「もう見た。早く食べようよ。」

Farm work 〜ファームの仕事〜

One thing that makes my farm work hard is the wet ground at the forest. This forest was never used until we moved in our Jersey cows. The soil there doesn't get dry easily because it is very dense and sticky like clay.

ファームでの私の仕事を大変にしていることのひとつは、林の濡れた地面です。この林は、私たちがジャージー牛を移動させるまで、一度も使われたことがありませんでした。そこの土は、簡単には乾きません。粘土のようにとても密度の濃い土で、粘着度が高いからです。

Before the next rain comes, I decided to move the sand to the forest that we dug out before to make the new patio. This sand should prevent me from slipping on the wet ground, and help me work better in the rain. I put the sand in the wheelbarrow and pushed it down the hill. It was super super heavy!

次の雨がやって来る前に、私は以前新しいパティオを作るために掘り出した砂を、林に移動することにしました。この砂は、濡れた地面で私が転ぶのを防ぎ、雨の中で働きやすいようにしてくれるはずです。私は一輪車に砂を入れ、それを押して丘を降りました。ものすごく、ものすごーく重かった！

Sunny: "What!? What!!!??? What is it?"

サニー：「えっ！？えっ！！！？？？　なに、それは？」

Mommy: "I'm sorry for scaring you, Sunny. This is just the sand. You don't need to worry about this."

ママ：「サニーちゃん、怖がらせてごめんね。これは、ただの砂。心配しなくていいのよ。」

Mommy: "Let's spread the sand on the wet ground... It already looks better!"

ママ：「濡れた地面に砂を撒いて、と‥‥　いい感じになって来た！」

Happy: "Sunny. If you don't eat the hay, Serene and I are going to eat up."

ハッピー：「サニー。干し草を食べなかったら、セリーンと私で食べきっちゃうわよ。」

Sunny: "I'm just.... scared..."

サニー：「だって‥‥　怖いんだもの‥‥」

Mommy: "There is nothing for you to be scared of. Come closer. You can see the sand."

ママ：「怖がることはないのよ。近くに寄って、砂を見てごらん。」

Sunny: "Let me see..."

サニー：「どれどれ‥‥」

Mommy: "I didn't say you can eat."

ママ：「食べてとは言ってないよ。」

Sunny: "I guess I can be a friend of the sand."

サニー：「まあ、お砂と友だちになってあげてもいいわよ。」

Mommy: "Glad to hear that. Because you are already standing on it."

ママ：「そう言ってもらえてうれしいわ。だってサニーちゃん、もう砂の上に立ってるんだもの。」

Sunny: "What!?"

サニー：「えっ！？」

Sunny: "I haven't stood on the sand yet, right, mother?"

サニー：「私、まだお砂の上に立ってないわよね、母さん？」

Happy: "Well, I'm not sure."

ハッピー：「さあ、どうかしら。」

Serene: "Is that important?"

セリーン：「それって、重要？」

Ehime: "It's hard to live outside. I'm glad I can use the pillow and sleep on the couch."

えひめ：「お外に住むのって、大変でしゅね〜　わたちは、枕を使ってソファで眠れて、うれちいでしゅよ。」

Kona: "I agree. I love to have my own quilt and sleep on it."

コナ：「同感。自分のキルトがあって、その上に眠るの、大好き。」

Mommy: "When did the quilt become yours?"

ママ：「そのキルト、いつからコナくんのものになったの？」
