What's the level of the sweetness? 〜スウィートネスは、どれくらい？〜

Daddy: "Oh! Deer!"

パパ：「あっ！シカ！」

Mommy: "Wow! They can hop really high!"

ママ：「わあ！結構高く飛べるのね〜！」

Today, one week after we harvested our grapes, it's the harvesting day for our neighbor, Mr. G. Mr. G are actually going to save some grapes himself, so that he can make some wine himself in his place. My husband went to help him. 

私たちの収穫が終わってから一週間後の今日、ご近所のGさんの収穫日です。Gさんは、ご自身の家でワインを作れるように、自分用にぶどうをいくらか取っておかれるそうです。主人は、Gさんのお手伝いに行きました。

Daddy: "See you later."

パパ：「いってきま〜す。」

Kona: "Mm? Daddy is walking in the vineyard."

コナ：「ん？パパがぶどう園を歩いてる。」

Mommy: "He is going to Mr. G's house to help him."

ママ：「Gさんのお手伝いに行くんだって。」

Ehime: "In this hot weather?"

えひめ：「こんなに暑いのに？」

Mommy: "It's 90F at 12:00pm. It's going to be really hot to harvest today."

ママ：「午後12時で、約32℃。今日の収穫は、かなり熱くなるわね。」

My husband told us that they stopped harvesting around 2:00pm. Because it was over 100F, and it's too dangerous for workers to stay in the vineyard. He brought some pieces of the Zinfandel grapes from Mr. G's vineyard to check the Brix (the sweetness of the fruit) since we have a machine.

主人が言うには、午後2時ごろ、収穫が中止になったそうです。気温が38℃を超え、作業員さんたちがぶどう園で働くことは危険と判断されたからです。主人は、Gさんのぶどう園から、ジンファンデルというぶどうの粒をいくつか持って帰ってきました。我が家には糖度を測る機械があるので、それで測定しました。

Mommy: "I love Zinfandel♪"

ママ：「私、ジンファンデル、大好き♪」

Kona: "How do you check the sweetness?"

コナ：「どうやって糖度を測るの？」

Daddy: "With this little machine."

パパ：「この小さな機械で。」

Daddy: "First, we crush the grapes and get some juice out."

パパ：「まず最初に、ぶどうを潰して、ジュースを出すんだ。」

Daddy: "Then we put some water in the machine to make sure the number is 0%."

パパ：「それから、機械にお水を入れるんだ。ちゃんと０％になっているか確かめるために。」

Daddy: "And, we put some grape juice in this hole. See the number? That's the Brix. 25.7%. It's pretty sweet. Mr.G needs to harvest Zinfandel soon."

パパ：「そして、この穴にぶどうのジュースを入れるんだ。ほら、数字が現れただろ？これが、糖度だよ。25.7%か。かなり甘いな。Gさん、すぐにでもジンファンデルの収穫をしなきゃいけないな。」

Mommy: "This is not the sweet product, but mommy & daddy bought some doggie treats yesterday."

ママ：「これは甘くないけれど、パパとママ、昨日犬用のおやつを買ったのよ。」

Mommy: "I'm going to put this treat on top of your hand when you lie down on the floor. And you've got to wait until I say OK. Do you understand? Now.... down!"

ママ：「みんなが床の上にダウンしたら、ママ、みんなの手の上にこのおやつを置くからね。ママがOKと言うまで、じっと待ってなきゃダメだよ。わかった？じゃあ‥‥　ダウン！」

Kona: "Please put that treat on our hands."

コナ：「手の上におやつ、置いて。」

Ehime: "Hurry."

えひめ：「はやく。」

Mommy: "Well, Goldens. How will you guys eat the treats if I put them on your hands?"

ママ：「えっと、ゴールデンのおふたりさん。手の上のおやつを置いたら、どうやって食べるつもりなの？」
