Wildfires and cows 〜山火事と牛〜

Daddy: "We have new neighbours. Let's go say hi."

パパ：「新しいご近所さんだ。挨拶に行こう。」

Daddy: "Hello♪"

パパ：「こんにちは〜♪」

Mommy: "They are cute♪"

ママ：「かわいいね〜♪」

Have you ever heard of the wildfire in California? Most of them are caused by humans who do things like target-shoot in dry creek beds or light the campfires when they shouldn't. Sometimes careless tree trimmers have allowed trees to fall into power lines. Wildfires destroy thousands of homes and businesses all over the United States, which is why it is so important to be aware of the potential for wildfires and to always take steps to prevent a fire from spreading.

カリフォルニア州の山火事についてお聞きになったことはありますか？そのほとんどが、乾燥した河原でターゲットシューティングしたり、してはいけないところでキャンプファイヤーをしたりなど、人の手によって発生したものです。不注意なトリマーさんが木の枝を切って電線に枝を落とした、というものもあります。山火事は、アメリカ中の何千という家やビジネスを壊滅させます。なので、どういうものが山火事の原因になるのかということに気づくことはとても大切で、いつも火が広がらないように努力しなければいけません。

On of the reasons to make wildfires spread is dry grass. While my husband spent his two days to cut weeds with a tractor in our property, our neighbor got a different idea. That is cows. They asked the ranch nearby and brought some cows to let them eat the grass in their property. This works great for both a property owner and a ranch owner, because everyone can be happy without costing for anything.

山火事を大きくする原因のひとつは、乾燥した草です。主人は我が家の敷地内の雑草を、二日かけてトラクターで刈り取りましたが、ご近所さんには別の考えがありました。それは、牛です。近くの牧場に頼んで牛を連れてきてもらい、ご自身の敷地内の草を牛に食べてもらうという考えです。これは、敷地のオーナーさんにとっても、牧場のオーナーさんにとっても効果的です。何にも費用がかからず、みんなが幸せになれるからです。

Daddy: "I see. We need a fence around our property."

パパ：「なるほど。ぼくたち、敷地にフェンスが必要なんですね。」

Mommy: "They have horns."

ママ：「つのがあるのね。」

Daddy: "They are Longhorn cows. We saw some of these in Texas, remember?"

パパ：「ロングホルンっていう種類の牛だよ。テキサスで見たの、覚えてる？」

Mommy: "This cow looks like Kona if he didn't have horns."

ママ：「つのがなかったら、この牛さん、コナに似てるね。」

Daddy: "We are back. Thank you for waiting, dogs."

パパ：「ただいま。みんな、お待たせ。」

Ehime: "How were the new neighbors?"

えひめ：「新しいご近所しゃん、どうでちたか？」

Mommy: "We saw a brownish cow that looks like Kona."

ママ：「コナくんに似た茶色っぽい牛さんに会ったよ。」

Kona: "I have a common face."

コナ：「よくある顔なので。」

Ehime: "We've got to go say hi someday."

えひめ：「いつかご挨拶に行かなきゃ。」

Daddy: "They might move to the new place, soon."

パパ：「牛たち、またすぐ新しい場所に行くかもしれないんだって。」

Kahlua: "I'm a Sheltie. If I were a little younger, I could herd them."

カルア：「ぼくはシェルティーだから、もうちょっと若かったら、牛さんを群れに集めることができたんだけど。」

Kahlua: "But I might join them and eat grass together."

カルア：「でも今は、一緒になって草を食べるかもしれないな〜」

At home　おうち

Mommy: "Chickens, what are you doing over there?"

ママ：「にわとりさんたち、そんなところで何してるの？」

Chickens: "We heard you need a help to prevent wildfires. Which grass should we eat today?"

にわとりさんたち：「山火事を防ぐための助けが必要だって聞いたから。私たち、今日はどこの草を食べればいいかしら？」
